UNCLAIMED LETTERS Trove Tuesday 17th Aug 2021

Unclaimed letters can be intriguing. You can't help but scour the lists in the hope that you will see a familiar name.

Before we explore them further, let me answer the same questions I am always asked when I post these lists..

" NO, they aren't available for researchers, or anyone else to read."

"Yes, they most likely have been destroyed."

"Sorry, I have no way of knowing if any of these people mentioned have been found."

Of course, that won't stop us wondering.. what if? I have included a couple of possibilities, though I have no idea as to whether these are actually a match for the names selected. Nice to dream...

The 20 pages included here are just a fraction of the 206 pages that were in this Gazette..I will leave you to explore further. Link below. Enjoy!

MISSING FRIENDS & CONVICTS Trove Tuesday 10th Aug 2021

It must have been so much harder for families and friends searching for missing loved ones all those years ago. We take for granted that we have a number of outlets to publish notices, better communication among authorities and ways to reach a far greater audience than was possible for our ancestors.
These notices can often lead us to those we have 'lost' in our research or at least sometimes give us a clue about their contacts and families.

These notices cover a number of months and some list transfers. They are helpful in that you can trace the movements of those listed, in place and time. Trove can often help via newspaper notices as well as these Government Gazette notices.

I've also included some helpful links that may help you to discover more details and stories. The names at the end of this post were selected at random... as you know, there is always more to the story.
