Some of the most interesting stories, notices, you will find in TROVE are those related to marriages...not just for the excitement of finding an ancestor's notice, but in the lengthy descriptions in some of the notices.
Many weddings made the social pages of the local newspapers .. and it was interesting to see how some intended to to 'outdo' others...You can read the guest list in some, lists of gifts perhaps, detailed descriptions of the clothing worn .. maybe even the honeymoon destinations.
Of course guest lists can be invaluable for adding to the family tree, but treat with caution... especially with more common names.

WEDDINGS
The marriage of Dora Engel, of Heidelberg, Victoria, to Alan Clark, of Sydney, was celebrated at the United Church at 6.30 p.m. last Saturday.
The bride, given away by Mr. R. Matheson, wore a beautiful ballerina length dress of self striped nylon with cowl neck, full elbow length sleeves and hooped skin. On her head she wore a small half hat. Short white gloves and a bouquet of fresh flowers completed her outfit.
The bridesmaid, Grace Hodge, wore a ballerina of orchid pink nylon with rounded neckline and fully pleated skirt. She wore a small cocktail hat and pearl choker and earrings. Bob Matheson was best man.
Mr. R. Matheson acted as toastmaster at the reception, held at the Darwin Club.
For going away the bride wore a dress of yellow and black nylon with yellow hat and black
accessories.
Mr. and Mrs. Clark left for Melbourne where they will spend their honeymoon.

The wedding of June Ambrust to Ian Maclean was solemnized at the Salvation Army Citadel,
Katherine on Saturday, December 18th.
June, who was given away by her father, wore a ballerina length dress of lace over satin featuring high neckline, long sleeves and a double tier skirt. She wore a two tier veil and carried a bouquet of roses and sweet peas.
The bridesmaid Miss Alice Collins, chose a full skirted blue ballerina with strapless top and stole.
The groom's sister, Rhonda Maclean, was flower girl She was frocked in lemon and carried a basket of flowers. The best man was Joe Wyatt.
The 200 guests were received at the reception in the Katherine Hall by Mr. and Mrs. W. Maclean. The newly weds are spending their honeymoon at Mataranka and will later make their home in Darwin.
