MISSING FRIENDS & CONVICTS... Trove Tuesday 6th Apr 2021

So many people went missing, men and women, free settlers and convicts. These notices give incredibly detailed descriptions, some addresses, age, height, complexion, possible alternate names for some.. sometimes relatives names... clothes they were wearing and date they were last seen.

It must have been heartbreaking for families and friends.. Some are listed as having been found... but very few in comparison.

Even some convicts were listed as missing. Now that I can understand.

MISSING FRIENDS.. TROVE TUESDAY 16 JUN 2020

The following notices are from

New South Wales Police Gazettes

sometimes published as

New South Wales Police Gazette and Weekly Record of Crime

however, they do mention some names of missing friends
from other states.

The descriptions are mostly very informative, often not only giving a physical description, but occupation, last known address, sometimes possible whereabouts, etc. They often mention family as well.

I'm always saddened to read of so many missing children.
What were their stories, why did they disappear? Were they abducted, were they mistreated or were they simply looking for a better life?

It's a relief when you read that a child has been found, though not always in the best of circumstances.
