ABSCONDED CONVICTS Trove Tuesday 31st Aug 2021

These lists hold a wealth of information... including the names of some of those who were later apprehended. They give the name of the ship that transported the convict, whether it was the first voyage or later that that ship had taken .. in brackets.. This first list includes the prisoner's number, then their occupation/trade, followed by physical description, including any identifying posts such as tattoos, deformities, etc.  They also name their 'master' or 'mistress', their address and on what date the convict absconded. Not all lists give so much detail, so these are like gold to researchers.

If you can claim any of these listed, please comment below.. maybe others have more to share.

ABSCONDED FROM BAIL

According to the Chief Police Prosecutor (Sergeant Napper)
at the Central Police Court today, William McCleod or
Roach, who had appealed against a sentence of six months gaol,
failed to attend the Appeal Court when his case was called.
The appeal was dismissed.

McLeod was charged with having absconded from his bail.
"I was unable to appear, because I was arrested in Victoria",
explained McLeod.
"And he was convicted there" cut in Sergeant Napper.

McLeod was remanded until May 17, and the sergeant announced
that when the warrant was returned from Melbourne McLeod would automatically return to custody.
