UNCLAIMED MONEY... Trove Tuesday 25th July 2023

Are any of your ancestors mentioned in the list below?
I wonder how many of those listed actually claimed the money involved. Perhaps they did claim and it changed their lives.
Before you ask, I doubt that any unclaimed money would still be available now, some over a hundred years later...still, it's always interesting to see our ancestors names mentioned and wonder...
While this list was published in Western Australia, don't be put off searching. Other states are mentioned as many of our ancestors lived in more than one states as did mine.

Looks like a hotel on the right with all of the beer kegs on the verandah and the railway line goes down the main street.

Note that there are quite a number of later dates being added to Trove now.  You never know what you will find.

TICKETS OF LEAVE..CANCELLED 11 Jul 2023

Tickets of leave* were highly prized, but there were conditions... and they could be cancelled for many reasons...
TROVE has many articles about them, when they were awarded and when they were cancelled. Some of these announcements give quite a lot of detail about the convicts, even down to what ship they arrived on, so it's worth looking through them to add to the story... most give the reason for the cancellation of the ticket. Some interesting reasons...
You can also find most of these if you search through Government Gazettes, also available through TROVE.

Please click to enlarge.. or you can click on the underlined link to read the original notice.

A selection of extra information from an excellent site..

There is also a Facebook page... https://www.facebook.com/ConvictRecords

George Harvey

George Harvey, one of 270 convicts transported on the Bengal Merchant, 04 August 1836...
There is more detail on the site, including personal details.  You can search for yourself for any convicts in your family history, though not every convict has been added.

Why not add your own research to help others. You may find that others are researching the same convict and can share information.
