ABSCONDED CONVICTS ... Trove Tuesday 13th Apr 2021

ABSCONDED CONVICTS

These are prisoners who have absconded from their employers or designated areas..."some have stolen Certificates and Tickets of Leave".. others have simply slipped away. They knew the risk they were taking and that they could be severely punished or had their terms extended, but for some, the risk seemed worth it.

There are comprehensive descriptions of those listed which is also a great benefit.

If you're 'missing an ancestor', these lists may give you a reason why. The lists of those who were apprehended could also give you answers. As always, you can click to enlarge.

MISSING FRIENDS & CONVICTS... Trove Tuesday 6th Apr 2021

So many people went missing, men and women, free settlers and convicts. These notices give incredibly detailed descriptions, some addresses, age, height, complexion, possible alternate names for some.. sometimes relatives names... clothes they were wearing and date they were last seen.

It must have been heartbreaking for families and friends.. Some are listed as having been found... but very few in comparison.

Even some convicts were listed as missing. Now that I can understand.
Have you any ancestors listed as missing?
