This was the wedding of my Aunt, Nita (Stavroula) Catsoulis who always did things her own way, starting with her birth. Nita was born in Perth, Western Australia, on 17 March, 1914, a little earlier than expected. Her mother, my grandmother, was on the way to Greece, to introduce her three children to her parents. However, Nita decided that wasn't to be and was born in my grandmother's brothers house, in Money Street, Perth. It was to be some time before her father, Theodore, could go to WA to bring his young family back home to NSW. All major travel then was by ship. It must have been some voyage, with 3 1/2 year old Harry, 2 year old Mary and not quite 1 year old Con, as well as the infant Nita.
Nita and John never had any children, though they were very fond of their nieces and nephews. They were married 42 years before John passed away on 6 May, 1981, aged 70. Their lives together had been very busy with their cafes in Coonabarraban, Coonamble and later in Marrickville.
Nita died just 6 years after John, aged 73... they rest in Macquarie Park, General Cemetery, Sydney.
