The following clippings are all from POLICE GAZETTES.. with an addition to the title...AND WEEKLY RECORD OF CRIME.
This is not to say that these people listed were involved in, or suspected of being involved in, any crime. I just included the banner as it caught my attention.
The vast difference between these and the MISSING FRIENDS notices you will have seen on another of my blogs, AS THEY WERE.... here is that these include a lot more personal detail and great descriptions.
While none of us would like to think that our ancestors went missing, at least we would know a lot more about them and their appearance, etc. I am sure most family historians / come genealogists have at least a couple on their tree that seemed to have fallen off their branch in places unknown.
It would be wonderful if we could find your missing ancestor...
Please feel free to leave details in COMMENTS below... maybe one of my readers can help you.
These are selected randomly and are from between the years 1900-1924. They are all sourced from TROVE.
Two hints that some may not think of...
* don't dismiss these notices because they are published in NSW Gazettes...our ancestors often moved around more than we realise.
* whenever you're searching for a particular name, and come across the same or very similar surname, it is often worthwhile to save the information in a 'Maybe' file...particularly when looking for those 'missing'. Often just forenames were changed e.g. Browne became Brown, or they abbreviated from names like Woodward to Wood... I'm sure you have found some variations in your own trees.
You know the drill, click to enlarge... happy hunting.
