UNCLAIMED MONEY.. 1958 ..Trove Tuesday 29th September, 2020

This is interesting in that the money listed is with quite a few different places...some from the Treasury, others from various utility companies,  Amalgamated Wireless Australia Company, Australian Catholic Ambulance Company Ltd, to name just a few...

Some of the amounts are just a few shillings and pence... others are for quite a few pounds. We have no way of knowing whether this money was ever paid out as many of these companies no longer exist.

I have just posted the first 10 pages... if you would like to read the rest, the link is in italics below... these are many more pages to follow. maybe you will find some connection to your ancestors.

Do comment below if you find some names of interest... they just might add another level to your family history.

MISSING FRIENDS..... Trove Tuesday 22nd Sept 2020

Can you imagine how hard it would have been for families unable to contact a loved one? We have so many ways to communicate with each other. no matter what country, state, town they are in or have been...not so for those in the 19th century. It could take months to get a letter from one side of the world to another. People could disappear at will, start a new life, under a new name or simply not have the means or the inclination to contact family or friends...leaving heartache and eternal wondering for those who were left wondering whether to hope or grieve...

The following are just a small selection of some of the many notices  published in newspapers and journals of the time. They can be helpful in discovering possible relationships, maybe clues as to where a person came from, where they were thought to have been heading.

You may find more by looking at the newspapers of the day, the births, deaths, marriages of the various states and also looking for details of those named as looking for the missing person.

NEWS OF THE WEEK... 1908... TROVE TUESDAY 1st Sept. 2020

Albury Town Hall  built in 1908
A very popular column in some of the local newspapers was called News of the Week.

It was a collection of snippets from all over the world... local, national, international....  not at all confined to the area of publication.
This column stayed around for some years.. the following is just a small selection ... maybe you will find names of interest, maybe more about the areas your ancestors lived. There are also ads interspersed with news... they can be interesting in themselves.

Look through your family history... look for news reports about events that happened in relevant years, where possible ..in the areas they lived in. It can give you a better understanding of the lives they lived. What was happening the year they were born, when they went to school... what did their school look like, was it big or small? When did they marry, did their partner come from the same area, did they travel? So many questions, but even with a few answers, you can flesh out their stories, understand their journey.

PLEASE NOTE: There will be no TROVE TUESDAY post next week, 8th September. It will return on the 15th. Thank you for your support.
