AUSTRALIA'S FIRST PRINTERS.. Sydney Convicts Trove Tuesday 30 May 2023

Hand Press Printer

Australia has an interesting history re printing. With a new colony hungry for news, there was a great need for some form of shared communication. Though not all could read, written news was soon shared by those who could.

We take for granted our various means of communication and would be lost without it. Thanks to George Howe and others like him, the new settlement of Sydney was able to learn more about the brave new world as well as getting some news from their homeland. CONVICTS.. varied notices Trove Tuesday 23rd May 2023

The following notices all refer to convicts transported to Australia.

We who have convict ancestors are fortunate in that there are numerous sites that can help us in our searches. Some of the most helpful are in Tasmania and New South Wales.

If you are searching, you will find numerous references to earlier posts about convicts by using the search bar at the end of each page of my blog.

Feel free to share some of your own stories, you just might find yet more cousins or researchers looking for the same person.

CERTIFICATES OF NATURALISATION Trove Tuesday 9th May 2023

These are a selection of notices over various months, and states published in the Commonwealth of Australia gazette. Each page may have several dates.

You can click on the image to enlarge or click the link to go to the original. These notices include the address that the person mentioned was living at when the certificate was granted.

Where these posts can help is by looking for electoral rolls, newspapers, and maybe even cemeteries to see where your 'lost' people were living at various times.
